Mr. Bao Yonggang  was born in 1943 in Beijing, and developed a great love for martial arts in early childhood. In 1958 he met the great Yiquan Master, Yao Zhongxun and became his indoor disciple. He followed his most respected teacher closely and exclusively until Master Yao’s death in 1986. Mr. Bao’s hard work, preseverance and full-hearted dedication won his Master’s trust and love. Master Yao taught him open heartedly and generously.

Mr. Yao Zongxun was the official inheritor of Yiquan, the comprehensive system created by Wang Xiangzhai. Mr. Yao Zhongxun mastered the nuances of Yiquan and perfected a system of mastering this great art. Mr. Bao Yonggang’s understanding and practice of Yiquan are by far the closest to what Mr. Wang Xiangzhai taught and in accordance with Mr. Yao Zhongxun's elucidation of Yiquan.

In recent years, Mr. Bao Yonggang’s profound understanding  and explicit application of Yiquan  have made him a pioneer and important  promoter of Yiquan both domestically and internationally. Mr. Bao was invited to the United States twice to lecture, teach and conduct research regarding Yiquan and was highly praised for his efforts.  In 2000 he was invited to the Chicago School of Medicine to participate in biology-based research on Yiquan, exploring the mind/body connection in detail. He created a major experimental design which enabled participants to achieve the expected results. In 2007 his lectures to promote the understanding of Yiquan’s theory and methodology were warmly and enthusiastically received
